Outdoor Construction Camera for Ralph Carr Justice Center

Mortenson Construction is one of the top leading and innovative construction firms with over 50 years of experience and thousands of completed projects worldwide. The new 600,000 sq ft Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Complex, built by M.A. Mortenson, is scheduled to open in early 2013, which will house the appellate courts, attorney general’s office, court administration and others judicial agencies. The complex will include two buildings: a four-story court building with a dome and columns, and a 12-story office building.

M.A. Mortenson approached Intechnic to set up two outdoors construction web cameras for Ralph Carr Judicial complex project in Colorado. The requirements were to capture images of the entire construction project from start to finish while featuring live image feed and captured images on Webcamera Portal for public access. We were faced with a challenge to capture a wide construction area approximately 500 x 300 x 500 feet from a very short distance of about 100 feet. We’ve decided to utilize PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera capability to capture a serious of images from different angles automatically. At a later day we are able to combine sets of consecutively captured images into a single panoramic photo. One of the other requirements for this project is to have wireless connectivity from the camera to Mortenson’s network. We were able to accomplish this task by outfitting webcam with a wireless transmitter capable of transmitting signal up to a mile. One of the unique features of the wireless transmitter it does not interfere with any other signals that present in the urban areas thus giving our client uninterrupted trouble free connectivity.

Camera Selection

Intechnic recommended 3 MP webcams with remote Pan/Tilt/Zoom capabilities to capture the entire span of the 500 x 300 x 500 foot building from a distance of only 100 feet. The cameras were setup to automatically pan to 4 different locations from each angle to separately photograph the construction project from each angle. The images are then stitched together to form one single image. The single images are then used to create a timelapse video the project.

Utilizing of two separate cameras to capture daily progress of a construction project from two different vantage points. The cameras are capturing four different angles using automatic PTZ (Pan, Tilt and Zoom) Function. The archived images will be utilized at a later time to create a time lapse video.

Image Gallery

A password-protected image gallery stores all images taken by the cameras from various angles. The gallery allows project stakeholders to take a look at the construction project at any moment in the history of construction. For additional security, image saving was turned off in the gallery.

Lastly, camera controls were linked to through a dropdown menu to allow authorized viewers to be able to pan, tilt and zoom camera and manage its various settings and configurations.

The webcam website currently provides a simple, user-friendly experience for users interested in viewing construction progress and a history of images. At the conclusion of the project, timelapse videos will allow viewers to see years of construction take shape within the span of a few minutes.

What our clients say...

Utilizing Intechnics web development services we found their staff very receptive and attentive. Unlike other firms we have worked with in the past, the Intechnic team did eactly what they said they were going to do, when they said they were going to do it, and best of all came in under budget
