Placement of Videos on a Web Site

February 18th, 2009 by Konstantin K.     Posted in Business, How To's, Technology

Recently, one of my clients asked if we could place a video on his site either for marketing purposes or for an advertiser. He also wanted to have control over where the video is displayed and make sure that the video player and its interfaces are easy to use. After careful consideration I decided to use our Content Management System and enable an option that would allow the administrator to specify which video will be displayed on which page. Frankly, I very much like how it turned our (hence the reason for me writing this blog about it).

First, because the interface turned out to be very intuitive. The only thing that really needs to be done for the video to show up on a page of the site is to edit the page properties in the administrative console and fill in two fields: “name” and “description”. Once that’s done, the administrator just uploads the video and it’s all done. Pretty convenient, ha? :)

Thinking into the future, we can always expand on the functionality by adding the ability to upload an image that will display before the video starts and once the video is done playing. We can also add some more options if we want even more control over the video and where/how it gets displayed.

So to sum it up – everything’s set and done and the main things is that it’s easy to use – and that’s what I would like to see from any development that we undertake!
