Our Story

Intechnic was founded in 1997 to address emerging web development and online technology needs. The company was started by two computer science students while still in college, with very little capital and a small office located in northern Illinois. Intechnic has been expanding ever since and has grown to a world-class leader in web development.

  • 1997

    Intechnic is established by two college students

    Altavista introduces its free online translator Babel Fish

    Microsoft acquires Hotmail

    Internet traffic records are broken as the NASA website broadcasts images taken by Pathfinder on Mars. The broadcast generates 46 million hits in one day

    The term "weblog" is coined. It's later shortened to "blog"

  • 1998

    We receive our first award in web design

    Google is founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page

    PayPal is founded by Peter Thiel and Max Levchin

    The ICANN is established

    AOL buys CompuServe for an undisclosed price

  • 1999

    Intechnic opens its first hosting facility in Chicago

    MySpace.com is launched

    College student Shawn Fanning invents Napster

    “E-commerce” becomes the new buzzword as Internet shopping rapidly spreads

    Craig Newmark incorporates Craiglist.org as a for-profit online classifieds site

    We launch our first e-commerce website

    The Internet bubble bursts

    America Online buys Time Warner for $16 billion

    Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 5.5

    U.S. Court finds Microsoft violated U.S. antitrust law

    First version of our CMS software is released

    Bill Gates introduces the Xbox

    About 9.8 billion electronic messages are sent daily

    Wikipedia is created

    Apple introduces the first Apple iPod

    Intechnic hosting facilities are moved to the largest data center in Chicago

    Approximately 1 billion PCs been sold

    PayPal is acquired by eBay

    58.5% of the U.S. population (164.14 million people) uses the Internet. Worldwide there are 544.2 million users

    NAA study finds that online newspapers are the top source for local news on the Web

  • 2003

    Intechnic opens offices in Europe (Riga, Latvia)

    Skype goes Live

    Apple had developed their own web browser, called Safari

    Linkedin is launched

    The Mozilla Foundation, a not-for-profit California organization, is established

    In-Portal CMS product family is launched

    Mark Zuckerberg starts Facebook

    Internet Worm, called MyDoom spreads. About 1 in 12 email messages are infected

    Online spending reaches a record high—$117 billion in 2004, a 26% increase over 2003

    Photo sharing website Flickr is born

    Intechnic releases its own Shopping Cart - In-Commerce

    eBay acquires Skype

    YouTube.com is launched

    News Corp., buys MySpace for $580 million US

    Jesse James Garret coins the term AJAX marking the beginning a new era of user interactivity

    We pioneer online visualization technology - Virtual Room Designer

    Skype announces that it has over 100 million registered users

    There are more than 92 million websites online

    Twitter is created

    WikiLeaks is launched

    Intechnic builds the main government portal for the State of Victoria, Australia

    Apple releases iPhone, introducing millions more to wireless Internet access

    Legal online music downloads triple to 6.7 million downloads per week

    Colorado Rockies' computer system crashes when it receives 8.5 million hits within the first 90 minutes of World Series ticket sales

    Major move to place TV shows online starts

  • 2008

    Intechnic files for its first technology patent

    Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo for $44.6 billion

    Microsoft is fined $1.3 billion by the European Commission for further abusing its dominant market position

    Groupon is launched

    The first "Internet election" took place in 2008 with the U.S. Presidential election

    Intechnic's work is featured in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Forbes, CBS

    Twitter emerges as the fastest growing site on the Internet with 6 million unique monthly visitors and 55 million monthly visits — getting 1,400 percent larger every month.

    2009 Steve Jobs is named CEO of the decade by Fortune Magazine

    The BBC announces its iPlayer will go high definition

    Google Chrome is launched

    In-Portal CMS platform becomes open source

    Google announced a new Internet TV product called Google TV

    iPad is introduced

    Facebook announces it has 400 million active members

    United States Cyber Command achieves full operational capability

    Intechnic celebrates its 15 years

    Nearly two billion people worldwide use the Internet on a regular basis

    Apple is released iOS 5

    Internet overtakes print in news consumption among Americans by 73%

    Mozilla amps up fight against anti-piracy and Internet protection bills
